French or European public authorities must either regulate, issue authorizations, or sanction companies. The decisions issued by these authorities are first examined and verified, sometimes giving rise to legal proceedings before a court having jurisdiction:

A French regulatory body (Banking Commission, Commission de Contrôle des Assurances et des Mutuelles) before the Paris Administrative Court of Appeal;
An independent authority (Autorité des Marchés Financiers, Competition Authority) before the Paris Court of Appeal;
The European Commission before the European Court of Justice.
